The right time to make decisions for organizations is increasingly real time. Customers want responses in real time; supply chains must adapt to disruption in real time; fraud must be caught before it gets into the system while self-service and Web applications can’t wait for human intervention. We have become increasingly convinced that decision modeling, especially decision modeling using the Decision Model and Notation (DMN) standard and DecisionsFirst Modeler, is a great way to design dashboards. Building a decision model focuses on the decisions that must be made by the user of the dashboard, on how they make that decision and on the information and knowledge that they need to make a good one. Doing this before drilling into the specific user interface elements involved keeps the focus on business outcomes not on look and feel – on steak, not sizzle. Business analytics has become an important new trend for companies that want to be competitive—and stay that way. While certain kinds of advanced analytics have been on the market for decades, adoption is finally increasing for a number of reasons, including the economic climate, the availability of computing power, the growth in the amount and variety of data, and a greater appreciation for the power of analytics. Forward-looking companies are moving beyond BI—the slicing and dicing of data to produce reports and dashboards—to more advanced forms of analytics. These companies want to become more proactive to drive top- and bottom-line benefits. Among many use cases, they are using advan

Nauman and I share a passion for making sure that analytics are not just developed, but deployed into decision making systems and processes.

Hurwitz & Associates will update their Victory Index on Advanced Analytics in 2014. This report will summarize key trends in advanced analytics, provide information on vendor offerings, and report on vendor strengths and weaknesses from an end user perspective. In order to help guide end users who are making a decision on selecting an advanced analytics vendor, they would like to include feedback from current users. So, if you are a user of advanced analytics for use cases such as predicting consumer behavior, churn analysis, fraud analysis, predicting equipment failure, and reducing risk, they would really like to hear what you think. To help them understand how a broad group of users of advanced analytics solutions rate the capabilities and benefits of the products they use, go to surveymonkey.com/s/HurwitzVictoryIndexdecman and let them know.
